Zapraszam :)

During my stay at the Baltic Sea, beside Słupsk I visited also Blücher Bunkers. I've always been interested in history, and always when I had a chance to visit places related to historical event, I willing to visit them. Unfortunately I didn't have chance to visit many bunkers in my life, but these impress me. Feel free to read ;)

Same bunkry kryją nie lada niespodziankę.

Over the past decades, visions of visits bunkers were associated with an irresistible reluctance. Blücher Bunkers are the proof that the aspects associated with engaging themself in the remnants of war fortification is already a relic of the past. Clean, neat lodges in which movement in underpass from one lodge to another makes a pleasant surprise compared with the experiences of the past decades.
As I already mentioned, I was always interested in history, so it is not difficult to guess that these bunkers really impressed me. During the entire visiting lecturers spoke about the events that took place there. If you like history, or just for some reason you are interested in such places, I think it's a great place for you.
These bunkers are hiding quite a surprise. It would appear that the bunkers were ordinary shelters. Well ... partly right. However, in those bunkers made a multimedia gallery, cinema hall where you can see videos of the bombings, or just to find out that the task at that bunkers were firing all aircraft flying over them.
Next atraction you can find there is fe. simulation of battle gas attack or bombing.
Outside the bunkers you can find cannon, field stores with souvenirs, or army gadgets. You can also find stall with typical army cuisine.

You're going to go there? ---> BLÜCHER BUNKERS (there's more language options).

We will start with an important information. Ustka ( name of a town where these bunkers are) during over 600 years belongs to Prussia (today Germany). We - Poles lost these areas in the beggining of XIV century, during Władysław I Elbow-high lordship, and it returns to Polish borders after World War II in 1945. Ustka during over 600 years bears the name Słupioujście by the name of the river - Słupia which flows into the Baltic Sea.
Times that I will talk about will be mainly prewar, so let's say "german times". Ballerie Blücher. Why actually Blücher? Who it was? This is a character from the Napoleonic era. He defeated Napoleon Bonaparte in battle of Waterloo in 1815. First of all it brought him everlasting glory and everlasting respect. It's very important character for German history. Additionaly I'll say that this region was partyculary proud of him. Over 30 years of his life he lived in Słupsk (post about SŁUPSK) so 17km (10,56 miles) from Ustka.
So as I said this are vaunt a lot because Blücher lived here. He had monument, street (street was called by his name), chamber memory after his death in Słupsk. What's funny in Ustka even one hotel was called by his name.
Before we will talk about military  I'd like to tell you about huge German investment, which started to implement here in the beggining of 1938. Ustka had to become a really important harbour, strategic place.  Why this harbour had to be so important?
On this map you have selected Germany (divided into 2 parts) by lighter color, and you have selected Poland (prewar condition) by a darker color.
Let's say that relations between countries were "a little" strained. These two countries don't like each other. Germany induce tariff war by the way, and to comunicate with East Prussia they had to drive through our territory: roads, bridges, and railway lines. However it was connected to transit charges.
Germany wanted in some way to become independent, they want to bypass called by German's propaganda "Polish hallway".
How to make it? How to avoid Polish hallway? It's easy, by sea. Ustka has to be a place which operate this trade, transport with East Prussia with harbour in Iława. They planned to connect Ustka and Berlin by the main railway line, direct double circuit line.
Below we can see the plan where we can see where this railway line had to end. Then we can see breakwater, which had to be built from scratch. This investment was never completed. Although ultimately the breakwater had to have almost 1700 meters (5577ft) in lenght. To thi day remained a trace of unfinished investment.
Why it hasn't been completed even though construction lasted almost one and a half year?
It was dicontinued in late September 1939. This is the time when Poland is under the occupation, when there is nothing to steer clear of, because this way you could easily get to Prussia.
By the way Gdynia the most modern and largest port in those days withing Baltic Sea, Gdańsk in the hands of Germans and completing this project was totally pointless. I related to that because this port is somehow associated with these objects.
Let's say 2 reason for which they were built military installations. First was related to this port, let's say that before war it was standard that strategic and important places like this were defended by an army. Second reason was distance from Polish border - tens of kilometers. Although it sounds absurd, Germans take into consideration some attacks. They didn't know wheter there will be counterattack from Poland. They felt anxious somehow, that's why they decide to built Ballerie Blücher in Ustka.
But when Poland lost the September campaign, German soldiers were staying there only for 3 weeks.
At this time no hostilities weren't carried here. More than half a million marks (old German value) spent on these objects. They didn't use them even once.
